Defending champion Michael Brennan perfectly captured the course's unique character, noting the stark visual contrast. 'Very rarely do you have green fairway grass and then immediately it goes into black lava rock,' he said. 'That was a really cool visual and unique aspect of the golf course.' This contrast not only aids in targeting but also allows players to soak in the natural splendor. 'It's cool to kind of walk down the fairways and look at the red rock and just notice that you're in a beautiful part of the country,' Brennan added.

The course also holds deep historical significance as the final design project of legendary architect Tom Weiskopf before his passing in 2022. His swan song pays homage to golf's roots, with the 17th hole specifically modeled after the famed 'Postage Stamp' par-3 at Royal Troon, bridging modern desert golf with classic design principles.

Black Desert presents a fascinating paradox in playability. It boasts the third-widest fairways on the PGA Tour, averaging an expansive 49 yards. However, this generosity is a deception. Any shot that strays from the green finds no respite in rough, but rather the severe penalty of the unforgiving lava fields, making precision an absolute necessity on this visually arresting and historically significant layout.
